Under the Bill the Agency states that:
- it will become the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) and will focus on facilitating gender equality in Australian workplaces.
- it will put particular emphasis on promoting equal remuneration between men and women and eliminating discrimination on the basis of gender in relation to caring and family responsibilities.
- it will be able to collect data relating to outcomes for men and women in workplaces and use this data to establish benchmarks and strategies to assist organisations achieve gender equality
Subject to the Bill passing, the Agency says that it looks forward to working co-operatively with employers to ensure a smooth transition to the new regime.
