Housing
The National Women's Alliances, with the NFAW, have identified expansion of affordable rental housing as a prime policy objective.
An Alliance Housing Project - Briefing Note has been produced. Discussions have begun with key stakeholders. Work has commenced on improving available statistical data.
The Australasian Council of Ministers for Women, and the officials Council, has been asked to put the project on its agenda, to promote discussion on the issue nationally.
A February workshop in Canberra at Parliament House is in planning.
The Steering Committee for the project includes NFAW members Dr Meredith Edwards, Ruth Medd, and Marie Coleman. Secretariat support is provided by the Equality Rights Alliance. Samiro Douglas (WIRE Vic.) represents the economic Security4Women Alliance, and Lesley Young (CWA) represents the National Rural Women's Coalition. Cathi Moore (Canberra Community Housing) and Karen Billington ( Women in Engineering) represent ERA.
